Trenching/Excavating Competent Person Training

This course is designed for the employee who will be at the excavation site and have the authority to control Excavation Safety on the job.  Students are taught the basics of OSHA’s Excavation regulations (29 CFR 1926—Subpart P), learn soil testing, use soil information to determine the correct protective system needed and learn to identify the hazards associated with trenching. Each student will be required to complete and pass a written exam at the end of the course to demonstrate knowledge of the key principles of the standard.

Þ General Requirements for Excavation Work

Þ Requirements and Options for Protection of Employees

Þ Soil Analysis

Þ Interpretation and Use of Timber Shoring Charts and Aluminum Hydraulic Shoring Charts

Þ Trench Box Requirements and Use

Þ Sloping & Benching Systems

n Tuition includes student manual and all relevant handout materials.

n A card and certificate will be issued to each participant upon successful completion of the class.
